Craven Arms, Discovery Centre
The Discovery Centre lies on the edge of Shropshire's Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and makes an interesting day out for the family in its own right. It even sports a simulated balloon ride! Launches, which take place from the Onny Meadow down by the River Clun are just below a hill fort and right next to Stokesay Castle. If the winds take you to the east over Corvedale and the Cleehills you can British countryside at its most classic and best. The wooded limestone escarpment of Wenlock Edge runs away to the north east. If you drift instead to the north there are lovely views of Church Stretton, Carding Mill Valley and other popular Stretton hills and valleys. Views of the River Onny in its beautiful valley to the south offer some of the breathtaking and heartwarming views of this lovely county. A rare wind may take you to the west - the Kerry Ridgeway, Walcot Hall, Clun forest, Bishops Castle's quaint town - so from this launchsite you cannot go wrong!

The Discovery Centre lies within 50 metres of the A49 on left hand side as you go towards the South (Onibury/Ludlow). If you are approaching from the South, look out for it (a turf-roof low building amidst meadows and woodland) on your right hand side as you approach Craven Arms. There is a large purple sign indicating the centre. Make sure you park outside their car park as this is locked in the evening.
